Li Li Ji, PhD, professor of exercise physiology in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Laboratory of Physiological Hygiene and Exercise Science (LPHES), received an honorary doctoral degree from the Hungarian University of Sport Science. Ji was awarded the degree in 2020 but celebrated in Budapest in May of 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony commemorated Ji and fellow honorary degree recipient for 2022, Scott Powers (University of Florida). At the ceremony, both Ji and Powers gave an acceptance lecture to faculty and students. They also had their names inscribed onto a marble plaque alongside previous winners. Other winners include the late World Olympic President Juan Antonio Samaranch, the late Dr. John Holozsy who contributed greatly to exercise science and biochemistry, and other prominent world leaders in exercise and sports.
